Outcome

A poster uploaded his cell phone bill to ChatGPT and asked how it could save him money or whether another provider offered the same service for less. It gave him a script covering what he was overpaying for; he called T-Mobile, followed it and says his bill dropped by $80, about $960 a year, for under 5 minutes of his time.

how can you save me money off this bill or is there another provider I will get the same service for less

Sends the Original prompt shown above. ChatGPT and Grok open with it filled in, and ChatGPT may send it straight away. Gemini opens empty, so we copy the prompt for you to paste. Every button also copies it.

Run this task now, exactly as written below. Everything you need is here, so start straight away and only stop if something required is missing or a rule below tells you to.

Goal: Find where I'm overpaying on a bill and give me a script to get it lowered.

Fill in before running:
- The bill (account numbers hidden): [ATTACH]
- How I use the service: [DETAILS]
- Contract end date: [DATE]

Rules:
- List charges that look unnecessary or above current plans, with reasons.
- Compare with current offers from my provider and competitors, with dates checked.
- Write a short call script with what to ask for and what to say if they refuse.
- Don't change my plan; I'll make the call.
- If a site asks for a login, a CAPTCHA or payment details, stop and hand control back to me.
- Ask for my OK before you pay, book, send, submit or cancel anything.
- Check facts that can change (prices, opening hours, dates, availability, rules) against the official source, and tell me anything you couldn't verify.
- Check the new plan for contract terms, fees or loss of features before agreeing.

Output: Overpayment list, comparison and call script.

You'll know it worked when: the provider confirms a lower monthly price in writing.

Before you finish: re-read my goal and constraints, check your answer against each one, and list anything you assumed or couldn't confirm.

  • A poster asked ChatGPT for a strategy and call scripts to cut their bills, tackling one per week. They report: internet from $109 to $50 a month with extras and a 5-year lock, mobile from $48 to $15 a month for the first year by switching, pest control from $48 to $11 by going DIY, and budgeting software from $9 to $3 by self-hosting, about $1,437 a year in all.

  • Finance writer Jessie Hewitson tested ChatGPT on household bills. It had Hewitson find a cheaper competing broadband deal (£23 a month with Virgin against £35 with Vodafone) and wrote a script; read word for word on the phone, it got Vodafone to offer a £22-a-month reduction, which Hewitson says saved £156 a year. An emailed tariff review with Octopus turned into a phone call that moved them to tariffs worth an estimated £626 a year. Not everything worked: a ChatGPT-written appeal against a £90 Transport for London penalty failed, and a home-insurance quote it led to came in at £1,627.24 against £436 before.

  • When Brooke Ferrier, a parent of two on the NSW Central Coast, and their partner both lost their jobs, Ferrier asked ChatGPT for a low-cost meal plan for two adults and two toddlers, then refined it with follow-ups: hidden vegetables, low-carb options and no lentils. ChatGPT gave one recipe per meal with variations for each person, compared supermarket prices and produced a categorised shopping list with quantities. A week of breakfasts, dinners and snacks came to $140, against the $400–$500 Ferrier had been spending every four or five days, with much less food thrown out. Ferrier also uses it to find recipes for long-forgotten pantry items.
