Outcome
A parent gave ChatGPT the school's supply list for her daughter; because it already knew the girl's tastes from past chats, it picked specific items and gave direct Target links. She says her daughter, who usually dislikes whatever she chooses, didn't change a single item, only a few colours, and everything arrived within a few days.

Before you start, ask me 1–3 short questions about anything important that's missing below. Keep them quick. Then do the task, checking in with me at the key points. Goal: Turn my child's school supply list into a shopping cart of items they'll like. What I can give you (ask for whatever's missing): - The school's supply list - My child's age, favourite colours and styles - Store and budget Rules: - Ask 1-3 questions about my child's tastes if you don't know them. - Match every item on the list exactly (sizes, counts, brands if required). - Give a direct product link and price for each item, with the date checked. - Don't buy; give me the list to review with my child. - If a site asks for a login, a CAPTCHA or payment details, stop and hand control back to me. - Ask for my OK before you pay, book, send, submit or cancel anything. - Check facts that can change (prices, opening hours, dates, availability, rules) against the official source, and tell me anything you couldn't verify. Output: A checklist matching the school list with links, prices and a total. You'll know it worked when: every required item is covered and my child approves the picks.

Before you finish: re-read my goal and constraints, check your answer against each one, and list anything you assumed or couldn't confirm.

Tom's Guide's Amanda Caswell gave ChatGPT, Gemini and Alexa+ the same school supply list: follow it, stick to required quantities, pick reasonably priced items and skip optional ones. Gemini built an Instacart cart, skipped optional items, asked her to approve colours and totalled about $60-$90 ($105 with the optional water bottle). ChatGPT, on her Walmart account, followed the list carefully but slowly for $92.55; Alexa+ added the optional items and reached $251.48.

Asked to buy back-to-school shoes for their kid and a microphone for school, Vekay handed both to Grok Bot. It found a previous size 6 Hoka purchase in their email, opened shoes on the Hoka site and added the chosen pair to the cart. For the microphone (the post later calls it headphones) it checked the school website for requirements and added a couple of options to the Amazon cart; Vekay removed one and checked out. TechRadar's Eric Hal Schwartz asked ChatGPT agent to buy Purina dental chews for his new puppy on Amazon.
